DC Tower opens its doors to visitors
If you’d like to experience Vienna from a breathtaking bird’s eye view, don’t miss your chance on 14 September, from 10 am to 5 pm. When conditions are clear, the view extends from a height of 210 metres all the way to the Schneeberg. As part of the “Open House Vienna”, curious visitors were offered free tours of the DC Tower, which is normally not open to the public. The year before, the DC Tower was a real attention magnet, drawing 800 visitors on a single day to take part in the tours. This year, the DC Tower ranks as one of the 10 most popular buildings in the 10-year history of the Open House Vienna. And not only is the architecture festival celebrating its 10-year anniversary – so is the DC Tower.
The exclusive panorama from the terrace on the 58th floor (at 210 metres up, the highest storey accessible by lift) is just as spectacular as the view of the 300 tonne pendulum used to counteract wind vibrations. The pendulum, which swings freely across four storeys, consists of a stack of 20 steel plates, topped by a 50,000-litre tank of water. The water in the tank can be used to extinguish fires in an emergency.
“For this year’s Open House Vienna, we once again look forward to opening our doors to both locals and visitors to Vienna. We are proud that the DC Tower was ranked among the top 10 buildings of the architecture festival. The DC Tower, with its remarkable architecture, is truly an emblem, a landmark of Vienna. From the outside, the tower is a familiar sight for many people. At the Open House, you can get an exclusive look backstage”, says DC Tower Manager David Friedl of CBRE. The CBRE Group is the largest global company for services and investing in commercial real estate. Since 2019, CBRE has been in charge of property management for the DC Tower.
“And don’t worry. In Austria’s tallest office building, we take the trip up by lift, not by the 1,450-step staircase. If you want to take a crack at the stairs, you’ll have your chance at the DC Tower Run in May 2025. It’s open to amateur athletes as well as professionals”, says Friedl.
The DC Tower is a building of superlatives: 250 metres tall, 60 floors, a total weight of 290,000 tonnes, 29 high-speed lifts travelling at eight metres per second – nearly three times faster than conventional lifts. It is the tallest office building in Austria and one of the slimmest skyscrapers in the world. An exclusive look inside the DC Tower reveals a sophisticated blend of high-tech and sustainability – including a breathtaking view of Vienna.
