First Decade of a True Pioneer: DC Tower celebrates its 10-year anniversary

In every metropolis in the world, skyscrapers stand for innovation, creativity, technological progress and economic strength. The DC Tower - Austria’s tallest office building - is no exception. For precisely ten years, it has marked the cityscape of Vienna. The first of its kind. A true pioneer.

In honour of the occasion, owner Deka Immobilien held a glamorous event at the 250-metre tower with the theme “Pioneers 1st Decade”. The invitation was gladly accepted by celebrities such as solo violinist Lidia Baich, “Runtastic” founder Florian Gschwandtner, 2022 GNTM winner Lou-Ann Gleissenebner with her mother and GNTM finalist Martina Gleissenebner-Teskey, moderator Hanno Sattele, celebrity astrologist Gerda Rogers with Clemens Trischler and many more.

On Thursday evening, the lobby of the Meliá Vienna in the DC Tower was transformed almost beyond recognition. Festively decorated and illuminated by a flurry of camera flashes, famous figures from the worlds of art, culture and business waltzed down the red carpet. They all came to pay homage to the DC Tower – incidentally, the first skyscraper “over the Danube” (a very common way of referring to the location in Vienna!) and the tallest office building in Austria. Its beauty and its unique design have meanwhile achieved fame well beyond the country’s borders. The DC Tower represents not only major architectural achievements but also pioneering spirit in sustainability, innovation and the creation of living and working spaces. It’s a genuine work of art. The man behind the concept is none other than the renowned French architect Dominique Perrault. Unfortunately, he could not be in attendance due to his health.

Tower Manager David Friedl, “heart and soul” of the DC Tower for over five years: “I think the DC Tower is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. And on top of that, the sheer variety of services that we offer our tenants is unparalleled. The DC Tower has a maximum occupancy of approximately 6500 people. For a year now, we have been fully leased. That makes me very proud!”

The evening was full of exciting highlights! Before a crowd of distinguished guests, the moderator duo Kati Bellowitsch and Tarek Leitner first welcomed to the stage the evening’s host, Deka Immobilien and architect Franz Janz, whose office has partnered for many years with the office of Dominique Perrault and who was heavily involved in the construction of the DC Tower.

According to the renowned Viennese architect, “The DC Tower represents the most advanced architecture with innovation in urban development”. We also heard from an array of famous speakers such as Runtastic founder Florian Gschwandner, violinist Lidia Baich and celebrity astrologist Gerda Rogers. As different as they are, they have one thing in common – they stand out in their field. In other words, they are true pioneers.

After that, the guests proceeded by high-speed lift to the 58th floor, where we were treated to fine foods, cool drinks and an unmatched view of Vienna. Some instead went straight to the exciting Tower Tour. Another highlight was the massive DC Tower birthday cake, flanked by an impressively staged fireworks display. The DJ duo KLANGKARUSSELL provided the musical entertainment that concluded the evening.
